As part of that Clean energy planThe Cook County Government has set an ambitious goal of reaching 100% renewable electricity in 171 county buildings by 2030, but that goal alone cannot be achieved.
Authorities are currently seeking strong partners in the market, as the amount is not yet sufficient among the county’s existing and planned on-site solar installations, including solar panels installed in buildings such as the Domestic Violence Court. It is out in.
On Monday, county officials announced that they had issued a request for proposal for a renewable energy offsite power purchase agreement (PPA).
Under these arrangements, energy buyers like Cook County agree to contract with developers to buy electricity at a specified price for a pre-determined period. The agreement allows developers to raise the funds needed to build and operate renewable energy plants such as wind and solar power plants. When the plant goes live, the developer / energy generator supplies power to the grid, where the buyer claims it.
According to authorities, the county will begin drawing electricity from renewable energy sources by 2023, with greenhouse gas emissions of nearly 94,000 metric tons each year, or emissions equivalent to those generated by powering 16,000 households. We expect to save on volume. The switch to renewable energy will also reduce pollution and save millions of dollars in local health care costs, officials said.
“This PPA represents a major step forward in the fight against climate change and is the right thing to do for the environment, the people of Cook County, and race equality,” said Toni Preckwinkle, President of Cook County Board of Directors. Says.
The deadline for RFP compliance is December 17, and the county will select vendors in February.
