Chicago (CBS) — Here’s what makes commuting easier and faster when using CTA’s Brown Line.
CTA announced its new Red-purple bypass.. Brown Line trains bypass the Red and Purple lines just north of Belmont. CBS 2 carried the Brown Line from Belmont to Southport and looked inside. The CTA said the bypass would reduce commuting time on all three routes and allow more.

“This project wasn’t just a delay. We were able to add trains during busy times,” said CTA Tammy Chase. “Under the old rail system we had, we reached the limit. We couldn’t add any more trains. So what you had in rush hour was a crowded train. Those who couldn’t get on the train had to wait for the second or third train. Therefore, this project, this new rail bypass, really alleviates that problem. “

Bypass is part of a $ 2.1 billion red and purple modernization project. It replaces the old Clark Junction built in 1907 to connect the brown, red and purple lines. This is the new permanent mainline truck for the first time in 28 years.
