Chicago, Illinois (WMBD) — A whopping $ 300 million in relief grants to Illinois-licensed child care providers.
At a press conference Thursday morning, Governor JB Pritzker said relief money would reach more than 5,000 providers in 2020, with 90% of those recipients still keeping the facility open today.
“Despite all the pain of a pandemic, they can still serve the Illinois family. For working parents, it makes all the difference,” he said.
According to Pritzker, the grant aims to support 95,000 children and families participating in state-sponsored childcare support programs.
The grant will make childcare more affordable by helping parents get back to work and allowing providers to pay the full amount of trained workers, he said.
In addition, $ 100 million worth of bonuses have been sent to childcare workers.
“Our childcare workers are essential to the success of Illinois workers and the Illinois economy,” he said.
