Thomas Delacruz was on a door-to-door canvassing for candy when he was murdered in his grandmother’s Hammond district on Halloween night.

“They took the soul, they took my soul, and I have to wake up like this every day,” said his mother, Jasmine Anderson.
Despite her husband’s comfort, Anderson couldn’t stand the sadness after his son was killed on Halloween night when a group of men fired at a trick or treater.
“I was able to tell millions of people about how smart and strong my baby was before him,” Anderson said.
Delacruz had just celebrated his birthday on October 1st. He was in Hammond, where his grandmother lives. His group was doing a trick or treat with a friend when he was targeted by one of the shooters in a car he had previously spoken to with another teenager. group. It was around 7:30 pm when my neighbors heard the shot ring.
Police arriving at block 3600 on 167th Avenue said Delacruz was shot in the head and another 13-year-old boy was shot in the thigh.
“I’m just out of the hospital,” said Delacruz’s father. “I felt sick just thinking about my son.”
There are still many men alleged to have caused the attack. Another man, Gary’s Desmond L. Crew, 23, was charged with murder on Tuesday afternoon and attempted to murder.
Police said they helped neighbors catch him after seeing him escape from the scene.
On Thursday night, the community got together and remembered Delacruz, who said his family loved video games, sports and helping people.
“Our heart hurts so much, but we thank everyone who came with us,” said his grandmother, Marisol Delacruz.
