Timins, 36, died in a hospital on October 26 after being shot dead at a Speedway gas station in Pontoon Beach, a village in Madison County, about 10 miles (16 km) northeast of St. Louis.
During the funeral on Tuesday, Timmins’ wife Lindsey (Hornburger) Timmins told her fellow mourners, “For me, the definition of a hero is my husband.”
“Every day he tied his vest to his chest, took the courage and made the ultimate sacrifice,” she said emotionally.
Float police chief Chris Modrusik called the day when Timmins was deadly shot “the worst day in department history.”
