Lansdale, PA-“I take all the punches for these guys,” said Malik Harris. “Boxing is teaching discipline, self-awareness, and encouragement. It’s completely different from what people see on television.”

Harris was looking for boxing as a personal fitness tool 20 years ago. But his hobby quickly turns into a passion, through which he can give back to the local community.

“I was a kid who grew up without a father because of substance and alcohol abuse,” he said. “So what I’m doing now is working with children with ADD, ADHD, Parkinson’s disease, all disabilities, self-confidence, bullying, etc.”

Harris, who also had learning disabilities as a child, uses boxing to teach children with all sorts of challenges that need to be overcome. He converted the garage of two cars into a Kings Corner Boxing Studio, providing one-on-one instruction for young people and adults.

Gavin McNicol, a 16-year-old high school student, experienced bullying before stepping into the Kings Corner.

“He has definitely taught me a lot since I started here,” McNicol said. “He just got really good at knowing how to protect himself and how to be self-control in the situation. As in the discussion, he doesn’t always have to fight to solve. “

Another student, 13-year-old Nicholas Koren, has seen growth as a boxer over the past two years. His mom, Robin, sees it every day.

“He has ADHD and Tourette’s disorder, so it was always difficult to concentrate,” she said. “From the beginning, he was happy and excited. It was something new. He drew energy and just loved it.”

Malik Harris didn’t just help the kids with the boxing ring. He and his wife adopted seven children from foster parents. Together with their 5 biological children, they have a total of 12 people.

“We love kids. My wife and I had a little problem in childhood, so what we wanted to do was to have a big family,” inspired by their mother and grandfather, respectively. Harris, who had a wonderful life, said. Their children.

At Kings Corner Boxing Studio, Harris continues to invite more kids to his home to learn life skills they will never forget.
