North Port, FloridaWFLA) — Brian Laundrie’s family lawyer, Stephen Bertolino, has revealed that the knowledge that a gun was lost from Laundrie’s family home is not open to the public.

Tuesday, Coroner revealed Brian Laundrie died of a self-injured gunshot wound after disappearing during the search. His fiancé, Gabby Petito..

Bertolino said his parents, Chris and Roberta Laundrie, handed guns to police on September 17, when Brian Laundrie disappeared, and police officers completed the paperwork for the missing person. During the transfer, I found that the pistol was missing from the case.

“(Law enforcement) and I felt it was best not to disclose that information,” Bertolino said in a statement.

“Imagine the general public thinking that Brian had a gun in the enthusiastic atmosphere of the time,” he added. “I can’t tell you why (the law enforcement) didn’t reveal the information, but at the time we talked about it. I think they felt the same as I did.”

Brian Laundrie’s belongings and notes were found along with his body, but both the FBI and Northport Police have stated whether the gun was recovered from the Carlton Reserve.

“I don’t know if a gun was found near Brian’s remains or belongings,” Bertolino said. “You need to confirm that with (law enforcement).”

Bertolino’s remarks are made in discussions about the possibility of prosecution against those who have supported or may have supported Brian Laundrie’s attempts to evade police.

Gabby Petito’s lawyer also suggested in a statement shared earlier this week that he could be prosecuted against “additional individuals.”

“The family was asked not to comment and let the FBI continue the investigation,” said Rick Stafford, Petito’s family attorney. “The family was also asked to wait for the US law firm to decide whether to charge additional individuals.”
