Australia(WJW) – Australia’s Reptile Park says it has discovered a funnel web spider that is so big that experts have called it a “mega spider.”

According to the press release From the Australian Reptile Park, spiders measure at 8 centimeters compared to an average size of 1-5 centimeters. It has fangs about 2 cm in length and can bite human nails.

The spider was described in the release as “What is a nightmare made of?”

“I’ve never seen such a big funnel-web spider in the park for more than 30 years,” said Michael Tate, an Australian Reptile Park education officer, in the release. “We want to know where she came from, hoping to find a bigger spider like her.”

According to the release, the park encourages residents to safely catch funnel-web spiders and participate in antivenom programs. The spider is then milked and the poison becomes an antitoxin. The antitoxin saves about 300 lives annually.

The spider found is a female and the park only milks males, so it is not milked.

Spiders were submitted as part of the weekly collection at several drop-off points. It was in an unlabeled Tupperware container. The park wants to find out who the spider’s “mysterious donor” is.

“She is extraordinarily large, and if we can hand more spiders like her to the general public, more lives will be saved because of the large amount of poison they can produce. It will be, “Tate said.
