Charlotte, NC-After experiencing pain after Carolina lost to the New England Patriots 24-6 on Sunday, Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold is throwing his shoulders for MRI on Monday.
Coach Matt Roll said he would wait until Wednesday to keep track of Darnold’s injury before deciding who would play Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. PJ Walker is another option for teams in quarterbacks.
“We wait to see Sam making progress in terms of health,” Rure said.
Darnold was initially injured in his right shoulder in Carolina’s eighth-week victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
Darnold has been struggling for the past few weeks and has thrown 10 intercepts in the last 6 games. This included three picks against the Patriots on Sunday, one of which was returned 88 yards due to a vigorous touchdown by JC Jackson.
“Now we are focusing on Sam and his health,” Rure said. “I think Sam first told you that it wasn’t enough from the quarterback position (Sunday). We opened up some opportunities we couldn’t connect to. Too many. And three giveaways. Looking at our season we’ve defended football, we had a chance to win … so if we didn’t play better in that position I can’t. “
Roule also confirmed that the center’s Matt Paradis had taken place for the season after the ACL on his left knee was breached in the match on Sunday. Pat Eflein will be welcoming the first team representative at the center this week.
According to Rhule, defensive end Brian Burns (ankle) and left tackle Cameron Irving (calf) also had an MRI on Monday. The second-year coach said he wanted to know more about their status when the team returned to practice on Wednesday.
