Penguins star Crosby and defensive Dumoulin on the COVID-19 list | WGN Radio 720

The Pittsburgh (AP) Pittsburgh Penguins entered the COVID-19 protocol on Wednesday after both Star Center’s Sidney Crosby and Defensive Brian Dumoulin tested positive.

Director Mike Sullivan said Crosby is dealing with mild symptoms, but Dumoulin remains asymptomatic. Crosby’s positive test took place less than a week after his season debut and he missed the first six games while recovering from left wrist surgery.

The overwhelming majority of penguins are vaccinated, but have spent their time fighting COVID-19 early in the season. Crosby and Dumoulin are the 7th and 8th penguins to participate in the COVID-19 protocol since the training camp was opened in September.

Defense Marcus Petterson and Chad Ruhwedel joined the Protocol on Monday. Forward Jeff Carter, Jack Genzel, Zack Aston Reese and defensive Chris Retan also tested positive.

Carter, Genzel and Aston Reese have returned to action. Retan, who was symptomatic, returned to practice on Monday.

Crosby made his 2021-22 debut last Saturday after losing 4-2 to New Jersey. The 34-year-old didn’t score points because the penguins lost three games in a row.

“I’m sure he’s discouraged,” Sullivan said. “He worked very hard to reach this point, and we were all very excited to put him back in the fold. This creates another obstacle before that. But we control what we can do and expect Sid to come back soon. “

Penguins (3-3-2) conclude their eight-game homestand with cross-state rivals Philadelphia on Thursday and Minnesota on Sunday.
