Friday night remained largely quiet in Los Angeles, but street protests rioted in several cities across the United States, especially in New York, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon.
The night protest was in response to Kyle Rittenhaus’s acquittal in Kenosha, Wisconsin. More protests are expected today and Sunday.
On Friday night:
- In Queens’ New York District, there were at least five arrests and some property damage. Hundreds of people marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan on Friday night, blocking post-verdict traffic.
- In Portland, Oregon, police have declared riots in a downtown area near the Multnomah County Justice Center, officials said. The riot broke the windows of the city’s print shop and the rear windows of the police car.
- Chicago saw a mob attack the Neiman Marcus store on the Magnificent Mile. GameStop on the south side was also invaded.
- In San Francisco, six people were arrested in Union Square’s shopping district. The Louis Vuitton store was reportedly “empty”. Other looting and vandalism in the area were reported.
