Illinois State Museum debuts store with state-themed items

Springfield, Illinois (AP) — The new store at the Illinois State Museum in Springfield will showcase state products, along with state-themed souvenirs, specialties, and toys.

Called the shop, it will be open to the public on Saturdays. Families are invited to attend a daytime opening event in flannel and fleece pajamas.

Located on the ground floor of the Illinois State Museum, the store owns and operates a shop to fund programs and research.

The museum’s director, Cinnamon Katrin Legutko, said the opening was an important moment when the museum was reopened.

Former Governor Bruce Rauner’s administration closed the museum in 2015 while budget stalemate continued. It resumed the following year, but since then there have been pandemic-related closures of the coronavirus.

The museum was founded in 1877 and has branch facilities in Lewistown and Rockport.
