Nairobi, Kenya (AP) -Prime Minister of Ethiopia says he will lead his army “from the battlefield” from Tuesday. This is a dramatic new step in a devastating year-round war by Nobel Peace Prize laureates.
“This is the time when martyrdom needs to lead the country,” Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said in a statement posted on social media on Monday night. His government declared a state of emergency earlier this month as rival Tigre’s army approached Addis Ababa’s capital.
An estimated tens of thousands were killed in a war between Ethiopia and fighters from the northern Tigray region of the country that had long ruled the country before the inauguration of allied forces and Abby. The United States and others have warned that Africa’s second most populous country could destroy and destabilize the entire Horn of Africa.
