Two moderate quakes hit southern Iran, killing one

Tehran, Iran-At least one person was killed after two moderate earthquakes in Hormozgan Province, southern Iran, state television reported on Sunday.

State television said Bandar Abbas Governor Azizora Konari said a 22-year-old man had died when a utility pole fell on his head as a result of the quake.

According to the Iranian Seismological Center, the quake struck Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz in the middle of the afternoon, about 1000 km (640 miles) south of Tehran, the capital of Iran. The magnitudes are 6.4 and 6.3, and the heaviest quake is said to have hit a depth of 18 kilometers (about 11 miles).

The epicenter is about 60 km (36 miles) southwest of Bandar Abbas Port in Hormozgan Province.

The USGS report set the earthquake to magnitude 6 and 6.3.

There have been several aftershocks of magnitude 4.5 in this area.

Fear of the earthquake drove terrifying inhabitants down the street.

According to state television, the quake was felt in the states of Kerman and Fars in the northern part of Hormozgan Province.

“We don’t ask people to stay home because of the large number of aftershocks,” said Mehdi Dousti, Governor of Hormozgan Province.

Dousti added that police are providing security to people away from home.

Mojtaba Khaledi, a spokesman for the national emergency department, said 17 people have come to the hospital so far, most of them fearing an earthquake.

Calledi asked people to be cautious for at least two days.

According to the report, President Ebrahim Raisi ordered his senior vice president, Mohammad Mokubar, to visit Hormozgan Province as soon as possible.

Raisi also urged all responsible agencies to take care of those injured or injured.

The report said the evaluation team had deployed to analyze the situation.

Iran’s social media posted photos of the damage caused by the earthquake, including one of the walls that collapsed in the car.

Iran is located on a major seismic fault and experiences an average of one earthquake per day. In 2003, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake flattened the historic city of Bam, killing 26,000 people. A magnitude 7 earthquake that struck western Iran in 2017 killed more than 600 people and injured more than 9,000.
