Denver (AP) — Denver Broncos celebrated Demarius Thomas’ memory on Sunday with a 38-10 fuss about tributes, decals and Detroit Lions.

Running backs Javon Williams and Melvin Gordon each won a touchdown pair, and DelĂ©mont Jones played a monster game that included Jared Goff’s two sack.

Some Broncos arrived at the stadium in a jersey number 88, and kicker Brandon McManus wore a custom cleat featuring Thomas’ famous one-mile-wide smile. The retired recipient died Thursday at his home in Georgia at the age of 33.

About an hour before the kick-off, local artist Armando Silva delivered a portrait of Thomas in the parking lot to the Broncos locker room. This was followed by a video tribute featuring a pre-match silent prayer and Thomas’ 80-yard touchdown catch from Tim Tebow in his first play of overtime with the Steelers on January 8, 2012.

After that, Broncos (7-6) went out into the field with only 10 people in honor of Thomas. Lions (1-11-1) have rejected the delay in the game penalty.

Broncos then recorded his second opening drive touchdown in 29 games. Attack coordinator Pat Schulmer scored Williams from a distance of 5 yards and Dean Marlowe and Jaylen Elliott secured safety across the goal line.

Gordon’s 1-yard TD run-after after a three-out by Detroit was 14-0, and in the first quarter Broncos held an 11-0 advantage on the first down and 135 to minus 1 on aggressive production. It ended with a yard difference of. ..

However, their fate was reversed when the team switched sides, and Goff quickly pushed the Lions downfield, attacking Kalif Raymond from a distance of seven yards and halving the Detroit deficit.

The Lions pulled to 14-10 with Ryley Patterson’s 36-yard field goal, but Broncos entered the 17-10 changing room with a McManus 52-yard player at the end of the first half.

The Lions won their first victory, but were hit hard by COVID-19 last week. There were seven players on the virus list on Sunday, but when Shelby Harris punched the ball from the grasp of Godwin Igwebike, he infuriated football in the second snap of the third quarter. And linebacker Jonathan Cooper recovered in Detroit 30.

After five plays, Williams caught a 10-yard TD pass from Teddy Bridgewater and extended Denver’s lead to 24-10.

Jones had a dominant series on his next drive in Detroit. He lost 9 yards on his second sack, stuffed Igwebike with a loss of 3 yards, and beat Goff’s pass in 4th and 2nd.

Broncos took over Lions 33 and Gordon pushed from 14 yards to 31-10. Albert Okwebnum’s 4-yard TD catch limited 88-yard drives in the second half of the fourth quarter.

Denver’s defense also had a goal line, with Kareem Jackson splitting Goff’s pass into tight-end Shane Zylstra, scoring four to four points.

In the middle of the fourth quarter, Safety Justin Simmons picked a pass and immediately struck a dart on the blue circle on Denver’s sideline, placing the ball in the middle of a stencil-printed “88” with white paint. The fifth interception of the season that tied the career high.

One-two punch

Gordon, who missed a shoulder and hip injury last week in Kansas City, scored 111 yards with a 24-carry and Williams ran 73 yards in 15 attempts with a 10-yard TD grab.

COVID SUBS

Among the many players promoted from the Lions practice team over the weekend was the Craig Reynolds running back. Craig Reynolds has been promoted to deeper in a depleted position, along with Dundresswift, who missed two games in a row due to a shoulder injury. Reynolds ran 83 yards on Sunday’s 11 carry.

Lions lost CB Jerry Jacobs (knee) and LB Alex Anzalone (ankle) in the game. Some Broncos were smashed, but everything went back into action.
