The College Football Playoff semi-finals at the Orange Bowl will face Michigan’s surge and the Georgia team, who finished their regular season undefeated before suffering a humble defeat to the defending national champion.

The December 31st match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida was set when Wolverine was second and Bulldog was third in the final CFP rankings released on Sunday.

Michigan (12-1) and Georgia (12-1) are two of the most famous programs in college football, but I’ve only met them twice so far. They split the two meetings. One is 1957 and the other is 1965.

Wolverines has been in the four-team playoffs for the first time since winning the first Big Ten title since 2004. It is also the first team to start an unranked season to play off. They didn’t beat the AP Top 25 until the end of the second match. It defeated Washington 31-10 on September 11th.

They had a close victory over the unranked Rutgers and Nebraska, with the only defeat in Michigan being 37-33. However, they played in late November, defeating the regular season 42-27. 2 Put a 42-3 beatdown on Iowa in the Ohio State University and Saturday night’s Big Ten Championship Game.

Georgia has the most dominant defense in the country throughout the first 12 games and entered the season with great expectations. Bulldog was fifth in the pre-season and second in Alabama in the first five votes of the regular season. After Alabama lost at Texas A & M on October 9, they took over the top spot and stayed there for seven consecutive weeks.

Bulldog participated in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game as a touchdown favorite for Alabama. However, their attacks leveled off, making two turnovers, one returning a passcut for a touchdown, and converting only three out of twelve thirddowns. Alabama’s Bryce Young threw 421 yards and three touchdowns, with the Bulldog losing 41-24.

Defense is the identity of both Michigan and Georgia. Wolverines features two defensive ends, Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabot, combining 25 sack, and Georgia has the best defensive tackle of outland trophy finalist Jordan Davis.

The Orange Bowl also held national semifinals in 2015 and 2018. Hard Rock Stadium was where Alabama defeated Ohio at the 2021 National Championships.
