Mark Turgeon Resigns as Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Maryland | WGN Radio 720

Mark Tarjon played as a basketball coach in Maryland after removing the team from the top 25 at a slow start in the 11th season.

The athletic club announced on Friday that Turgeon has resigned from what is called mutual decision.

“After a series of conversations with Coach Tarjon, we agreed that changing coaches would be the best bet for Coach Tarjon and Maryland’s men’s basketball program,” athletic director Damon Evans said in a statement. I am. “He has been devoted to the University of Maryland for over a decade and has taught with outstanding honor.”

Terrapins have won at least 23 games in five of the last seven seasons, but Maryland has reached Sweet 16 only once under Turgeon and hasn’t gone any further. Terp started ranking this season, but fell to 5-3 during the season after losing to Virginia Tech on Wednesday night.

“After a close conversation with Damon, I decided that it would be best for Maryland Basketball to immediately resign and be effective as the head coach of Maryland Basketball for me and my family.” Turgeon said. “I’ve always preached that Maryland basketball is bigger than anyone else. My departure gives a new voice for the team to move forward.”

Assistant Danny Manning has been appointed as interim coach for the rest of the season.
