New York (AP) — The day after the United States announced that the first case of an omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, health officials announced Thursday that it was found in a man who attended an anime convention in New York City late. November.

As some health officials suspect, there are many new variants, such as whether it is more contagious, whether it makes people more seriously ill, and whether it can block the vaccine. Remains unknown.

The United States recorded the first confirmed case of the Omicron variant on Wednesday. Vaccinated travelers who returned to California after traveling to South Africa on 22 November developed mild symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

Omicron is classified by the World Health Organization as a “mutant of concern”. Scientists are working to determine how they can be compared to the major delta mutants in terms of infectivity and severity. Scientists are also studying how existing vaccines and treatments protect against Omicron.
