Rampant crime at Lincoln Park, Lincoln Square spurs additional patrols

Chicago — Over the last 10 days, police have responded to approximately 12 robbers and carjackings at Lincoln Park and Lake View.

Councilors and police are now aiming to prevent further attacks and are informing locals that additional patrols are imminent.

Aldo. Michele Smith, District 43, said more than 50 additional police officers patrol the neighborhood in a move that councilors say would react directly to the rise in crime she says hasn’t happened in the area for years. say.

“Since 2014, we haven’t seen so many robbers in such a short period of time. It’s completely unacceptable. There’s a carjack, there’s a guy with a gun,” Smith said. “It’s completely unacceptable. It needs to be stopped enough.”

According to police, nearly 12 victims were struck by guns and robbed. Police sent community alerts to warn residents to stay alert. On Wednesday morning, the detective investigated three overnight business intrusions on the North Side — a restaurant in Lincoln Park and two liquor stores in Lincoln Square were robbed.

According to police, most Northside attacks occurred between 3 pm and 10:30 pm. Authorities believe that the criminal works with two or three crew members, drives the neighborhood, and commits multiple crimes.

Smith says it’s time for people to stand up for the community.

“I’ve been walking alone in this neighborhood for over 40 years, but I’m not going to stop,” Smith says. “So I’m going to walk every night where the attack was.”

Smith encourages locals living in the area to attend Thursday night while walking down the streets where recent crimes have occurred.

“It is the responsibility of all of us to keep our community safe,” Smith said.

Smith says he will meet with community members in Fremont and Dickens on Thursday night and regain his neighborhood at 9 pm.
