Today’s Illinois COVID Update: IL reports 7,068 cases and 78 deaths

Chicago (WLS)-Public health authorities in Illinois reported 7,068 new possible confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 78 associated deaths on Tuesday.

This is the highest number of deaths reported in one day since 102 deaths were reported on February 11.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 1,861,254 COVID cases have occurred, including the deaths of 26,698 people in the state.

The 7-day state-wide test positive rate is 5.5%.

Within the last 24 hours, the institute reports that 174,247 new specimens have been tested for a total of 40,237,790 since the pandemic began.

As of Monday night, 3,029 patients in Illinois were reported to be hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 610 patients were in the ICU and 272 COVID-19 patients were on mechanical ventilation.

As of Monday, Illinois has been vaccinated a total of 17,768,693 times, with 58.84% of the state’s population fully vaccinated. The 7-day moving average of the daily vaccine is 69,951.
