Chicago Firefighter Death: MaShawn Plummer Funeral at House of Hope Church in South Side

Chicago (WLS)-Friends and family meet on Thursday to say goodbye at the funeral of a Chicago firefighter who died on duty

MaShawn Plummer, 30, died last month after a fire broke out in the northwestern part of the city, killing civilians.

Fully uniformed family, friends and colleagues were poured into the House of Hope Church on the Far South Side. The funeral is followed by a procession to Oak Woods Cemetery on 67th Avenue.

“He certainly devoted his life to the city and to help others, and he misses both his family and his community, and all the first responders I’m a little sad today, “said Kebbing Raham, former FOP president.

Plummer, a Chicagoer who grew up in Inglewood, was also a college graduate who learned the law but eventually decided to join the fire department.

His family said he was overjoyed when he received the call.

“It was the happiest day of our lives. That was what he wanted. That was his effort and no one robbed him,” his great. Uncle Willie Mackline said.

Plummer collapsed Belmont-While fighting a fire in the Central District He was in the basement of a building in North Mamola, pulled out and taken to the hospital. At the hospital, he died of an injury about two weeks ago. The inhabitants of the building also died in the fire.

Plummer’s funeral includes the Chicago Fire Department’s ritual tradition and is reserved for those who died on duty.

Those who knew and loved him said that Massawn lived to serve others, and he deserves this honor.

“Mashoon is a wonderful person. It’s a very unfortunate loss for us to celebrate his life today, but all this attention, he’s worth all the dimes, but that’s not enough,” said a family friend. Chong Tae McLean said.

“He was just a loved one. It was that aura about him, you had to love him,” said family friend Beverly Hudson.

Plum leaves his parents, sisters, and a large family. He was a member of the Engine 94 Fire Department around Portage Park. He had just celebrated his first anniversary as a firefighter / EMT in December.
