The crash occurred just before 1:00 pm on Tuesday at 600 blocks on Vermont Road near Bloomfield Avenue.
Action News learned that the helicopter had three crew members and one baby patient at the time.
The helicopter was traveling from Wellspan Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to Philadelphia Children’s Hospital.
The three crew members were rushed to the Lankenau Medical Center and the infant patients were taken to CHOP. Officials said no one had suffered life-threatening injuries.
“It’s a miracle. It’s an absolute miracle,” said Timothy M. Bernhard, a police officer in the Upper Darby Police Department.
At this time, there are no reports of injuries to people on earth.
Someone living nearby said he saw the helicopter trying to land on the ground before it bounced off and landed sideways.
“I can’t wait to meet this gentleman and wave his hand to lower it (drop the helicopter) in his way,” Bernhardt said.
According to a statement from Welspan Chambersburg Hospital, “… Today, a LifeNet medical helicopter based in Hagerstown, Maryland, crashed on its way to Philadelphia. Our hearts are to our families and crew. It has been directed and is grateful early on. Reportedly, the patient and crew survived and the patient was taken to the planned hospital by ground transport. “
The cause of this crash is under investigation.
