The NHL on Monday postponed the Seattle Kraken home game, which will face Ottawa on Thursday, due to a COVID-19 issue with the Senator.
This season, the 92nd NHL game will be postponed for coronavirus-related reasons. Some of them are related to Canada’s attendance restrictions.
Nine players, including league icetime leader Thomas Chabot, and new assistant coach Bob Jones on Monday are joining the virus protocol. The main reason the game was canceled in Seattle was that the federal travel ban was still in place and I couldn’t return to Canada afterwards.
Buffalo Sabers has added Kyle Okposo and defensive Casey Fitzgerald to the league’s COVID-19 protocol list. They will join four players, including Center Dylan Cozens, who entered the protocol on December 29th.
Buffalo has been off since the defeat of the 4-3 extra time in Boston on Saturday. There, Sabers welcomed Jeff Skinner and Vinnie Hinostroza. Don Granato has also returned after missing two games after taking a positive test. Sabers are closed until Thursday, hosting San Jose Sharks.
The Dallas Stars have removed 10 players from the list and seem to be on track to resume play on Thursday. Forward Radek Faxa, Luke Glendening, Roope Hintz, Joel Kibilanta, Michael Raffl, Jason Robertson, Defense Jani Hacamper, Miro Heiskanen, Esa Lindell, Ryan Suter have been activated. Two support staff have been removed from the Protocol.
Stars haven’t played since December 20th due to outbreaks and other schedule issues.
Of the 92 postponements this season, 87 have come since early December, with highly contagious delta and omicron variants spreading throughout North America. In Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba, Canada, dozens of games have been shifted back in the hope that they will be able to play in front of fans in late 2022 due to crowd size restrictions.
