Chicago – This “Throwback Thursday” deserves to feature the 23rd anniversary of the 23rd major moment.
However, this is not as fun for Bulls fans to remember as for other fans when it comes to Michael Jordan in the Bulls.
Michael Jordan retired from basketball again at a mass press conference at the United Center on Thursday, January 13, 1999, 23 years ago. With the addition of Bulls management, players, and the late NBA Commissioner David Stern, the superstar has announced that he believes it’s time to leave the game after winning three more times in Chicago.
Just as when he first retired in October 1993, Jordan left because of mental exhaustion after the tough season of 1997-1998, recorded in the 2020 ESPN movie “The Last Dance.” It was to feel.
Many thought that was the case when the team broke up with Phil Jackson’s head coach, but Jordan’s retirement officially ended the Bulls dynasty, winning six championships in eight seasons. To the guards, it seemed like the end of a renowned career that helped the Bulls take part in all championships, winning five regular season MVPs and six finals.
Of course, Jordan will then have another stint on the court and will return to the floor with the Washington Wizards in 2001. He finally retired in 2003 after playing for two seasons.
Larry Hawley made this moment the focus of WGN News Now’s “Throwback Thursday.” This week you can see that segment in the video above.
