Brunswick, Georgia (AP) —The jury was seated Monday for a federal hate crime trial of three white men convicted of murdering Amado Arbury.
Twelve juries and four from a pool of 64 people who were determined to qualify as impartial juries after asking for a week about their views on the killing of black men and racism in the United States. An agent has been selected.

This is the second time Brunswick, a port city on the Georgia coast south of Savannah, has hosted a trial for the murder of Arbury after being sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

Judges and lawyers interviewed more than 160 jury trial candidates from 43 counties in southern and eastern Georgia last week. Nearly two-thirds were dismissed for having strong opinions about the case after seeing some of the state’s murder trials or news reports about them.
Some of the 64 jury pool members who were told to return to court on Monday said they knew little about the case. They included a man who was only identified as Jury Trial No. 421 in court and told the judge on Friday:
Others could set aside what they knew and persuade the judge to hear the federal trial, based solely on the evidence presented in court. One of them, a woman identified as Jury Trial No. 422, said McMichael’s and Brian had negative feelings because they did not show regret in the state trial, but said they were still fair. Insisted.
A fair jury trial search in federal court took place just a week after McMichael’s announced plans to convict a lawyer in a federal proceeding in a deal with an soon-to-be-collapsed prosecutor. The judge said that only one or two potential juries knew it.
