Haunted Minedrop: 6-year-old Wongel Estifanos didn’t fasten his seatbelts before he died in the amusement park.

Glenwood Springs, Colorado-Why Colorado Investigators 6 year old girl died Ride the amusement park on September 5th.

Wongel Estifanos was riding a Haunted Mine Drop Ride at Glenwood Cave Adventure Park when he fell to the bottom of the 110-foot shaft of the attraction.

“This is the worst nightmare for parents and not for the worst enemies,” said a family friend. Bementayehu Mekonnen told ABC News.

According to a report released Saturday, researchers in the Colorado Amusement Ride and Device Program determined that Estifanos wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the start of the ride.

After checking the surveillance video, the investigators determined that Estifanos was sitting on the two seat belts of the vehicle. The seat she was on was vacant in the previous ride cycle, so she was able to sit on the latched seat belt of the ride.

In addition, the ride operator did not unlatch the seat belt after the last ride cycle.

So when Estifanos arrived, she sat in the seat without fastening the seat belts around her.

This caused the ride control system to sound an alarm to warn the ride operator that there was a problem.

The ride operator investigated the problem and pulled the tail of the seat belt to make sure everything was latched correctly. In doing this, the ride operator pulled on the Estifanos seatbelt tail and proved that it was latched into the lock. The ride operator was unaware that the seat belt was not properly fastened around the knee.

The ride still didn’t start, so the ride operator turned to another operator for help.

The assist ride operator unlocked the restraint using a manual override. The ride operator then removed and reinserted all seatbelt locks.

Then they rechecked the Estifanos seat belts and made the same error as the first ride operator. I didn’t notice that the seatbelt straps were under Estifanos instead of crossing the knees tightly.

However, the ride was manually overridden and reset, so the ride control system did not sound an alarm and instead allowed the operator to start the ride.

Colorado investigators have determined that lack of procedure, inadequate training, multiple ride operators responsible for a single ride cycle, and the restraint system itself are all factors in Estifanos’ tragic death. bottom.

The Haunted Minedrop will remain closed until the ride and ride operators address all factors that have led to the tragedy and state inspectors re-authorize the operation.
