Pittsburgh (AP) Pittsburgh Steelers star outside linebacker TJ Watt will not face Cincinnati after all.
The team downgraded Watt for a Sunday visit from Cincinnati (1-1). Watt, who deals with groin injuries, was listed as suspicious in a report of an injury on Friday.
Watt was injured in the second quarter of his 26-17 defeat to Las Vegas last weekend. He said he had limited practice this week but wanted to play on Friday.
Watt’s absence means that the Steelers (1-1) will not start both external linebackers on Sunday. Alex Highsmith had already been ruled out due to an inguinal injury.
Veteran Melvin Ingram and Jameel Jones, who signed the eve of the training camp, will be the starters when Pittsburgh is about to defeat the 15th Bengals in the last 17 meetings.
