East Rutherford, NJ (AP) — Young Hawk kicked a 40-yard field goal in the final play, and the Atlanta Falcons defeated the New York Giants 17-14, giving Arthur Smith his first NFL victory on Sunday.

The Giants (0-3) lost the last play of the game for the second straight week.

Matt Ryan made a 28-yard pass to Cordarrelle Patterson and a 25-yard pass to rookie tight-end Kyle Pitts on a winning drive in the game.

Ryan designed two slow drives and threw two touchdowns to rally the Falcons (1-2). The day the Giants retired from the two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning jersey and added his name to the Ring of Honor at MetLife Stadium was ruined.

Ryan threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Orami Dessash in the second half of the first half, adding a one-yard player to Reese Smith to close the match at 4:13.

New York took a 14-7 lead in a one-yard dive in Sake One Berkeley and a two-point conversion run in Jones, with 12:53 remaining. This was Berkeley’s first TD since the final round of the 2019 season. He tore the ACL last year.

Ryan then closed the game by driving the Falcons 72 yards in 16 plays. He ended the march with a pass to Smith.

The Giants had two 73-yard drives, but were delayed due to mishandling of bags and snaps. Gano kicked field goals 25 and 31 yards for a 6-0 lead.

A defensive stop deep in New York’s territory gave the Falcons the ball with the Giants. Atlanta covered the distance with six plays. Ryan found TD’s Zashaw in Third Down.

Manning Honored

The Giants have retired from Manning’s 10th jersey and added his name to the Ring of Honor at MetLife Stadium. Manning retired after the 2019 season.

Manning walked to the stage with his aggressive lines. He finished his short speech, citing Wellington Mara, the owner of the last Giants, who often said, “Once a giant and always a giant.”

The current co-owner, John Mara, was booed when he spoke while the crowd barked for Manning. The Giants have not participated in the playoffs since 2016.

next

Atlanta: October 3rd in Dallas.

Giants: I’m visiting New Orleans on October 3rd. This will be Saints’ first home game since Hurricane Aida expelled the team last month. Last week there was also a fire on the roof of the Caesars Superdome.
