A bride in the Chicago area accused the Southwest of her family’s missed wedding. “I didn’t have a family” – CBS Chicago

Chicago (CBS) — Southwest Airlines is catching up this weekend after thousands of flight delays in Midway, O’Hare, and across the country.

Southwest Airlines was canceled on the Midway, but many other airlines are behind and thousands of people, big and small, find it inconvenient.

CBS2’s Marie Saavedra tells a catastrophic story of a milestone that the Chicagoland family missed.

They were a flight to a wedding booked this spring. According to the family, Southwest Airlines had already changed flights several times, but what happened this weekend depended on the network. It made what was supposed to be their saddest day a happy day.

There is a video of Kimberly Romano getting married to her husband Kyle on Sunday, and the pictures are all that her family has.

“It was the most important day of my life and I had no family at the wedding,” Kimberly Romano said.

She shared the labor costs of thousands of Southwest Airlines cancellations this weekend with her sisters Lisa and Lenny. The family was booked to fly from Chicago to Las Vegas.

“They canceled my flight three hours before I had to leave to get to the airport,” Lenny said.

“We were all scrambling to try another flight,” Lisa said.

They failed, but on the morning of the ceremony, they took their parents by plane from Milwaukee, which was also cancelled.

“Even if the flight was a little late, I wanted them to be still here so that mom could do the hair and makeup with me and get ready with me,” Kimberly said. Told. “And of course my dad took me to the aisle.”

“I worked hard to get my parents there, but she never gets it back,” Lenny said. “I’m still emotional, I’m sorry.”

By the end of the weekend, Southwest Airlines had canceled about 2,000 flights nationwide. In a statement, Southwest Airlines condemned “weather problems at Florida airports” and “air traffic control” and promised to “solve confused plans as quickly as possible.”

But CBS News travel editor Peter Greenberg said there could be another reason.

“There’s more information that makes us believe there may be an informal slowdown in work by Southwest Airlines employees protesting the airline’s latest vaccine obligations,” Greenberg said. ..

Whatever it is, Romanos feels robbed. They will be grateful for the truth, apologies and full refunds for the memories they couldn’t make.

“This was a wedding. It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing they messed up, and we had more obligations,” Lisa said.

Romanos is not convinced that he will not fly southwest again after this. Airlines seem to reduce cancellations to make up for weekend delays, but it could take a few more days for the travel flow to get back on track.
