Dr. Fabio Ortega, 75, was convicted on Tuesday after pleading guilty to two exacerbations of sexual abuse in the Cook County Circuit Court.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the allegations result from two women saying that Ortega was sexually abused during the 2017 and 2016 trials when she was employed by the North Shore University Health System. There is.
Nine civil proceedings, including similar accusations from other women, have been annexed to the Cook County Circuit Court, said Tamara Holder, a lawyer representing these women.
Some of those civil proceedings also nominated North Shore and Swedish Covenant Hospital as defendants, claiming that North Shore did not warn patients of allegations filed against Ortega.
According to the proceedings, Ortega worked in Sweden before working on the North Shore, but claims that the North Shore allowed him to retire rather than dismiss him. Since then, Swedish has become part of North Shore.
North Shore said in a statement Tuesday that it was unable to comment on the proceedings related to Ortega. The health system also refused to comment on the circumstances surrounding the termination of his employment.
According to the Illinois Treasury Specialist Regulatory Authority, Ortega’s medical license was suspended in 2018 for “(a) being involved in sexual misconduct with patients in his practice.”
