“No climate and no trade”: Democrats are still stuck in climate change | WGN Radio 720

Washington (NEXSTAR) — The battle for the fight for climate change could undermine the Democratic Party’s ambitious plans for two infrastructure proposals.

Democrats want to pass through two infrastructure packages that they say will make transformative investments in everything from roads and bridges to education.

Senator Edward Marquee (D-MA) said catastrophic wildfires, droughts and storms made it clear. Climate change measures need to be included in larger infrastructure packages.

“It’s an environmental, economic, national security, and moral issue of our time,” he said. “There is no climate or trading.”

However, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Democratic policies would push up energy costs and kill fossil fuel jobs.

“There is no limit to the harm the Democrats can do to America, and let Heartland embrace the elite liberal fashion,” he said. “Their law includes a special giveaway for electric vehicles, which is a disproportionately preferred option for wealthy people.”

Democrats say tax cuts have long benefited the fossil fuel industry, which is driving climate change.

“No questions. Senators will appear and they will be tax-reduced,” said Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR).

Weiden instead wants tax cuts for clean energy, clean transportation and efficiency.

“The more carbon emissions we reduce, the greater our tax savings,” he suggested.

The real problem for Democrats is not Republicans. Democrats can pass larger infrastructure bills with Democratic support alone. However, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, who has political and financial ties to the coal industry, opposes climate change provisions.
