Philadelphia (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdown passes in three different ways, including three to Tyleak Hill, and Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 42-30 on Sunday.

Andy Reid returned to Philadelphia, winning his 100th career win in the Chiefs and becoming the first NFL coach to win 100 games with two teams. Reed’s 140 wins at the Eagles are among the most in franchise history.

Jalen Hurts threw the best 387 yards of his career and two TDs, but Philadelphia (1-3) couldn’t keep up with Kansas City’s powerful attack. The Eagles had three touchdowns disabled by a penalty and settled on three field goals in the red zone.

The two-time defending AFC champion Chiefs (2-2) was 4-5 in 2015, so he recorded two consecutive losses after entering the record for the first time.

Mahomes threw a TD pass underhand, overhand and shovel in three of Kansas City’s possessions in the first half. He finished with a 278-yard pass, and his interception was the only property the Chiefs did not win a TD. Hill had 11 catches at 186 yards.

Mahomes led the 1-yard TD pass handed to Clyde Edwards Heller 7-3 in the first quarter.

He threw a regular 6-yard TD pass to Hill, giving the Chiefs a 14-10 lead. Mahomes scored with a beautiful 32-yard pass to Hill, where he made an excellent over-the-shoulder fingertip catch near the sideline, early 42 to 20 yards.

His two-yard shovel pass to Jody Fortson increased Kansas City’s lead to 21-13, with less than a minute left in the first half.

Darrell Williams rushed in from 1 and extended the lead to 28-16, while the Eagles reached within 28-23 on a 7-yard TD run at Kenneth Gainwell.

Mahomes then connected to Hill with a 12-yard and 44-yard TD pass.

settlement

Hearts completed the first three passes of 56 yards on the opening drive, but defeated Zack Elliott in the end zone and the Eagles settled on Jake Elliott’s 29-yard field goal.

In the second half of the second quarter, Hearts opened Greg Ward in the end zone after a 6-yard TD pass to the Dallas Goedert was penalized for left tackle Andre Dillard for being ineligible in the downfield. I missed it. Elliott eventually attacked a 25-yard man.

Elliott kicked a 31-yard player after a three-yard TD pass from Hearts to Elliott in the third quarter was nullified by an aggressive pass-interference penalty on the JJ Arsega-Whiteside.

DeVonta Smith later caught a 34-yard TD pass, but he stepped out of bounds. After that, Eagles couldn’t convert with 4 down.

Devonta time

Smith caught 7 passes at 122 yards, the best of his career. Smith, who won the 2020 Heisman Trophy, ranked 10th overall in the NFL Draft, scored 115 yards in the first three games combined.

Kelsey Bros

The three-time Allpro Tight End Travis Kelce improved 3-0 over his brother’s three-time Allpro Center Jason Kelce. Travis had only four catches at 23 yards, but his acting skills were demonstrated when he shook his arm, pretending to be playless just before the snap of Mahomes’ shovel TD pass.

Down to one

Jason Kelsey started 109 times in a row. He was the only member of Philadelphia’s first line of attack and played after right tackle Lane Johnson was scratched for a “personal” problem.

Shady’s back

LeSean McCoy paid tribute to the Eagles after officially retiring on Friday. McCoy has spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia since 2009-14, ending as the franchise’s greatest leader in a rushing yard at 6,792. McCoy has been a member of the Super Bowl Championship team in each of the last two seasons, with two Allpros and six Pro Bowl Picks.

injury

Chief: DE Frank Clark (hamstring), CB Charbarius Ward (quadriceps), S Rashad Fenton (concussion) were inactive.

Eagles: S Rodney McLeod played for the first time after the ACL broke last December.
