Washington (AP) — Two members of the House of Representatives have asked the NFL and the Washington Football Team to free individuals from nondisclosure agreements that prevent them from discussing sexual harassment and workplace issues at their owner, Daniel Snyder’s club.

New York Democrat Carolyn Maloney, chair of the House Oversight Committee, and Raja Krishnamti, Illinois Democrat, chair of the Economic and Consumer Policy Subcommittee, will join the league and team on Friday.

“Parliament is responsible for combating harassment and discrimination in the workplace. When the NFL shares our commitment to address these issues, the results of internal reviews become completely transparent and all individuals You will be free to speak without fear of retaliation, “says Maloney.

Maloney and Krishnamoti sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on October 21 requesting that all documents and communications related to the investigation into the Washington Football Team be submitted by Thursday.

“Commissioner Roger Goodell told the press that victims and witnesses were free to publish their stories, but he should know that many of them do not have that option.” Krishnamti said on Friday. “Dan Snyder, the owner of the Washington Football Team, saddles them with a gag order to prevent them from moving forward for fear of retaliation. The NFL and WFT are particularly serious about dealing with sexual harassment within the organization. If you are working on, you need to allow these individuals to speak freely. “

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the league submitted a response to the Commission’s letter from last month on Thursday.

“As we discussed with the Commission, we are in the process of identifying the corresponding document while addressing the issues of privilege and anonymity promised to the participants in the study,” McCarthy said.

The Washington Football Team hired lawyer Beth Wilkinson in the summer of 2020 to investigate allegations of sexual harassment and other improper conduct within the organization. The league later took over the investigation, fined the team $ 10 million in July, the club’s culture is “toxic”, and ownership and senior officials pay little attention to sexual harassment and other workplace issues. Said not.

The NFL said there were no written reports of Wilkinson’s investigation.
