Brunswick, Georgia-The defense took turns in a murder trial of three white men who killed Amad Arbury, a black man running through the neighborhood.

Prosecutors rested their proceedings on Tuesday afternoon with eight-day testimony from 23 witnesses.

Judge Timothy Walmsley of the High Court told a disproportionately white jury that three defendant lawyers would begin proceeding Wednesday morning at the Glynn County Courthouse in Brunswick’s port city.

On February 23, 2020, father and son Greg and Travis McMichael were armed and jumped on a pickup truck to chase after Arberry after passing through a house from a nearby house under construction. Neighbor William’Rodi’Brian has joined the chase. His truck told police that he was trying to drive Arbury off the road, and recorded a cell phone video when Travis McMichael fired a shotgun three times before Arberry fell down on the street.

Brian’s lawyer, Kevin Goff, delayed making the opening statement at the beginning of the trial so that he could speak to the jury after the prosecution was absent.

The 25-year-old Arbury enrolled in a college and was preparing to study to become an electrician like his uncle when he was killed.

McMichael’s told police he suspected Arbury was a thief, as security cameras recorded him several times in an unfinished house on the street. Defendant lawyers said Travis McMichael fired for self-defense after Arberry attacked him in an attempt to throw a punch and grab a gun.
