The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel,
Diana Ross fell asleep peacefully on November 18th at the Woodland Hills Motion Picture Home after a short battle between lung and bone cancer. He was 79 years old.
Born in Philadelphia in 1942, Jacobs grew up as an avid fan of film, television and music. Still a teenager, he started his career in 1961 when he got a job at the William Morris Agency’s post office in New York. He worked for the agency for 30 years and was a founding member of the agency’s music department. He worked with artists of all genres, from rock and country to jazz and R & B, to Beach Boys, Monkeys, The Supremes, Simon & Garfankel, Diana Ross, Ashford & Simpson, George Benson, Teddy Pendergrass, Al Jarreau and more. .. Crosby, Stills, Nash.
In a recent MPTF profile, Jacobs recalled one of his first appointments, the Rolling Stones at Auburn University.
“It was really thrilling because I was 21 or 22 years old,” he said in an interview. “I earned $ 7,500 per night on behalf of The Beach Boys at the time. I created the first percentage date with them. They got about 70% of the gross at the door. I went in and went out for $ 28,000. This was an amazing stepping stone to get a percentage of the group, not a flat rate. “
After working at WMA for about 30 years, Jacobs quit his agency career in 1991 after working at ICM for 3.5 years.
Jacobs spent the last few years of his life as a coordinator of over 500 (mostly retired) William Morris agents and management alumni of the William Morris Agency.
In May 2021, Jacobs broke his leg. CT and other tests for the injury revealed stage IV lung and bone cancer. I moved to MPTF Hershold Place, a motion picture home, with my beloved Golden Retriever Kona and spent the last few months. Jacobs survives by his son and his daughter.
