On Monday, 35-year-old Gloria Williams appeared in court, revealing more awkward details of an already difficult case.
Williams has been charged with injuring a child due to omission and falsification of evidence. Her deposit is set at $ 900,000. $ 350,000 for child injuries, $ 300,000 for falsification of evidence, and $ 250,000 for omission injuries.
Her boyfriend, 31-year-old Brian Coulter, has been charged with the murder of 8-year-old Kendrick Lee. His deposit is set at $ 1 million. Coulter has been accused of beating and killing a child before and after Thanksgiving last year.
Both he and Williams remain in prison.
According to new details given on Monday, Williams and Coulter moved in March, leaving three other children of a 15, 9, and 7-year-old woman with Kendrick’s body in West Harris County. Lived in his apartment with the remains.
The surviving children claim that even if the couple lived there, they were trapped in a room with Kendrick’s remains. Williams allegedly sent groceries to the apartment once a month and continued to rent the unit so that the body could not be found.
Authorities discovered Kendrick’s body a week ago. His brother lived in a dire situation.
When Coulter appeared in the first court last week, the judge who oversaw the case resigned himself for personal reasons.
When the Coulter arrived, he slowly entered and asked the judge some questions. From time to time, he didn’t seem to understand what he was reading.
Coulter also asked the judge to repeat what the charges against him were, and if he was convicted, whether the sentence was actually five to 99 years or a lifetime.
The judge answered “yes” but advised him to speak through a lawyer as everything he said in court could be used against him.
Meanwhile, Williams was supposed to appear in court last Friday, but his appearance was pushed back on Monday due to a sudden disqualification by the judge.
KTRK also learned that the court had difficulty finding a qualified lawyer to represent her, but eventually a defendant lawyer was appointed.
Williams is expected to return to court later this week to get over the bond.
The judge said on Monday that her current deposit was not sufficient for prosecution.
Williams’ lawyer argued that it would take time to consider the case and asked the judge not to strengthen her bond.
