Illinois Police Soldier Attacked by Drunk Driver | Top Story

Joliet, Illinois (Wand)-Authorities said a drunk driver was attacked while soldiers from Illinois police were helping in a car accident.

The ISP said it happened around 1:25 am on Sunday. Authorities were investigating a two-vehicle car accident southbound on Interstate 55 near MilePost 260 in Will County.

Police said the trooper was stationary with lights activated to assist in directing traffic to Illinois Route 126.

While the trooper was in his police car, a 2017 black Acura collided head-on with the trooper’s police car, injuring him.

The trooper was slightly injured and taken to a local hospital.

36-year-old LiemT from Joliet, Illinois. Acura’s driver, Nguyen, was charged with violating Scott’s law and drunk driving.

Anyone who violates Scott’s Law will be fined at least $ 250 or $ 10,000 for the first violation.

If someone is injured in the breach, the offender’s driver’s license will be suspended for 6 months to 2 years.

So far this year, Scott’s Law has caused 21 ISP team cars to collide, injuring 13 troopers in an accident related to Scott’s Law.
