Seattle (AP) —Seattle Mariners acquired all-star second baseman Adam Frazier in a deal with the San Diego Padres on Saturday.

This move required two minor leaguers in Seattle, but addresses one of the team’s biggest needs as they enter the off-season. Add Nakano to pair with shortstop JP Crawford. Frazier’s diversity means that the Mariners can be proactive in engaging in other possible deals, even if another middle infielder becomes available.

“Adam is a proven, versatile and well-balanced player,” Seattle General Manager Jerry Dipoto said in a statement. “His presence makes our lineup longer and our team more complete.”

Padres has acquired a left-handed relief breaker and outfielder Corey Rossier.

Carr was added to the Mariners’ list of 40 people last week. He split the time between Double A Arkansas and Triple A Tacoma last season.

Rosier was the 12th round pick in the 2021 Amateur Draft from UNC Greensboro. He spent last season in a single A modest.

Frazier got off to a quick start in Pittsburgh last season, hitting 0.836 OPS and .324 in 28 doubles in 98 games. He was traded to San Diego in late July and declined in the last two months of the season. In 57 games against the Padres, Fraser hit .267.

However, Frazier has put the ball into play and has never hit more than 75 times during the season, which should help to lengthen Seattle’s batting order. The Mariners have played eight players in more than 90 games last season, all at least 99 times.

Defensively, Frazier has played primarily second baseman or left fielder throughout his career. If the Mariners plug in the Frazier second, Abraham Toro, which he bought from Houston last year before the closing date, could be moved to his natural third base position.

Frazier, who will turn 30 next month, has a $ 7.5 million contract this season. He has been qualified as a free agent since 2022. He earned $ 4.3 million last season.
