Waco, Texas (AP) — LJ Crier scored 21 points, James Akinjo scored 11 assists, scored 11 points, and Saturday defeated Stanford 86-48 with 9th Baylor.
After matching the school record with 21 Steel with a 92-47 victory at Central Arkansas, Bears covered almost 10 minutes and was running 26-2, which ended in Baylor before 60-31. Had 9 in. Baylor finished in 16 steals.
Freshman Kendall Brown scored 15 points at an inter-school meeting for the first time in 34 years. This was Bears’ first victory in the fourth match of the series.
Jayden Drea and Spencer Jones each scored 10 points for Cardinal (3-2), who shot 29% in the second half of his first trip to Waco. Stanford fell to 0-2 on the road.
Bears (4-0) was forced to make 22 turnovers, surpassing Stanford University turnovers 28-6 and breaking the arena record with 17 consecutive home wins. We also achieved 28 consecutive victories in non-conference games.
Baylor’s big run included steals and layups from Brown, followed shortly after by fellow freshman Jeremy Sochan’s steals and breakaway dunks. Akinjo’s ninth assist was at Jonathan Chamwa Chachua’s Alley-oop Dunk.
Crier hit two slow jumpers, including three pointers, giving sophomores another high-scoring career while scoring 5 out of 9 points from long distances. He set his career high at 20 two games ago, matching it with his previous outing.
Big picture
Stanford: Freshman Harrison Ingram calmed down after three double-digit scoring games to start his career. Playing about 100 miles from the Dallas high school campus, Ingram recorded nine rebounds but was limited to four points in two consecutive games.
Baylor: The early influence of Akinjo, a senior transfer from Arizona, was significant, and this outing countered familiar enemies. He played Stanford twice on the Pac-12 during his lonely season with Wildcats. Akinjo’s best assist career came to Clayton as a freshman in Georgetown in 2018-19.
