London (AP) — British counterterrorism police were investigating an explosion at a hospital in Liverpool on Sunday, killing one and injuring another.

Police were asked to report a taxi explosion at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital on Sunday morning. According to police, the explosion was not declared a terrorist incident, but counterterrorism police were leading the investigation as a precautionary measure.

“So far, the car involved was a taxi and was pulled up at the hospital just before the explosion,” Merseyside police said in a statement. “The work of seeing what happened is still underway and it can take some time before we can see anything.”

One died and one man was being treated for a non-life-threatening injury. Police said they were “open-minded” about the cause of the explosion.

Liverpool Women’s Hospital said it immediately restricted visits to other hospitals “when possible” by immediately restricting visits until further notice.

According to the fire department, the car fire was extinguished rapidly and people were away from the car before the fire broke out.
