The Hague, The Netherlands (AP) — The royal family announced Saturday that the 83-year-old former Dutch queen, Princess Beatrix, tested positive for the coronavirus.

In a statement, the royal family said Beatrix was tested after feeling “mild cold symptoms.” She is quarantined at home and adheres to the rules of those who test positive. The princess lives in a castle in central Holland.

Beatrix was the Queen of the Netherlands for 33 years until her eldest son Willem-Alexander abdicated in 2013 when she became king.

Last week she visited Curacao, a Caribbean island that is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. At that time, she told reporters that she had a COVID-19 booster shot.
