New York released three more cases of the omicron variant of coronavirus on Saturday, bringing the number of cases associated with the new variant to eight in the state.

“Omicron variants are here and, as expected, the community is starting to grow,” state health commissioner Mary Bassett said in a news release.

Seven of the cases were found in New York City and one in Suffolk County.

The arrival of Omicron continues to be tense with hospitals throughout the state under the surge in cases of coronavirus, most of which are due to delta mutations and due to staff shortages.

The number of people who test positive for the virus daily across the state has doubled in the last 30 days.

Governor Kathy Hokul recently allowed the Ministry of Health to limit unnecessary and non-urgent procedures in hospitals that are likely to run out of beds, and health care workers at facilities to address staffing issues and rising numbers of cases. We have deployed a National Guard team to rescue them.

Fifteen members of the National Guard arrived at the Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester on Saturday, the WROC reported. Deputy Governor Brian Benjamin said Wednesday that the state would send 13 national guard teams to western New York County. There, county executive Adam Bello declared a state of emergency.

The Omicron incident in New York seems irrelevant so far, Hokuru said. One known case involved a Minnesota man out of 50,000 who attended a three-day anime festival in New York City in November. Authorities are urging anyone attending the meeting to be tested for COVID-19 and to wear a mask in public.

As some health officials suspect, Omicron, including whether it is more contagious, whether it can block the vaccine, and whether it makes people as sick as the original strain. Much remains unknown about.

This variant has been detected in several states to date, including Nebraska, Minnesota, California, Hawaii, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Utah, Missouri, New Jersey, and Georgia.

“We know that variants of Omicron will emerge, and we expect to see more cases, but let’s be clear, we’re not vulnerable,” Hokuru said. “We have tools to help prevent the spread of this deadly virus. Get the vaccine, get the booster, and wear the mask.”
