New York (AP) —Michael Avenatti, a once-famous California lawyer who regularly cursed then-President Donald Trump during frequent television appearances, said he got pornstar Stormy Daniels from a book deal. Continued introduced on Thursday to a future judge to decide if it was.

The jury trial’s selection was a huge success within a week of being completed in the written questionnaire. US District Judge Jesse M. Furman introduced more than 60 jury trial candidates to Avenatti and lawyers on both sides, presented evidence during the trial, and was expected to last up to a month.

He asked Avenatti and his lawyer to easily remove their COVID-19 masks and prevent jury trial candidates from seeing their faces and not knowing them from their private lives.

Some juries were in the courthouse’s meeting room, while others were watching the judge on video in a ceremonial court. Everyone was separated to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Some of the 49 questions presented to the jury trial were asked if they were fair, even after hearing evidence that Daniels once worked for a “porn expert.”

The jury trial arrived in Manhattan court despite the morning storm. Later that day, the judge instructed about 40 people to return to Friday at the final stage of the jury selection process. At this time, lawyers on both sides can exclude some individuals from the 12 juries without explaining why.

Once elected, the jury will hear the opening statement on Monday and then hear evidence to help Avenatti deceive Daniels from the hundreds of thousands of dollars he should pay from the book deal.

Avenatti’s lawyer, 50, said he was likely to testify in this case. He was acquitted on charges of wire fraud and spoofing crimes.

Avenatti became well known in 2018, representing Daniels in a proceeding against Trump. He was treated so well in several circles that he considered running for president before federal prosecutors in New York and Los Angeles announced criminal accusations against him in another case.

In early 2020, Avenatti was convicted by a jury who tried to blackmail up to $ 25 million from Nike and sentenced to two and a half years in prison, but he has not yet begun serving the sentence.

In addition to the book earnings trial, Avenatti is facing a retrial in California for a federal crime alleging that he stole a multi-million dollar settlement from a client. His first trial ended suspiciously in August.
