Cockburn wins another Big Ten honor | Sports

Champaign — Coffey Cockburn dominated two halves against Minnesota last week and needed only one to turn the tide against Maryland two days later. Two Illinois win. Two outstanding performances from the Irini Junior Center.

Cockburn, along with Wisconsin sophomore guard Johnny Davis, was rewarded with that level of play on Monday for being selected as a co-big ten player this week. Cockburn averaged 26 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks in two Illinois wins, but Davis last week saw 27.3 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists per game to make the Badgers 3-0. I helped.

Cockburn posted a double-double with both Illinois wins last week. He scored 29 points in just 24 minutes, adding 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists and 2 steals. Most of Cockburn’s 23 points and 18 rebounds against Maryland occurred in the second half, scoring 16 points and outbound terrapins 15-10.

Monday’s award was the third in Cockburn’s career and the second this season. He was also named one of the Big Ten Players of the Week on December 27th.
