New York (AP) —Decades ago, authorities blew away the chance to file a proceeding against millions of Robert Durst in the death of his first wife, prosecutors in the suburbs of New York said Wednesday at a California hospital. Forty years to bring, he said he had quelled almost all the incidents that took place after Durst died in the lockup.

Westchester District Attorney Mimi Rocah quoted “Tunnel Sight” about the shortcomings of the investigation in a report on a recent review of her office on the disappearance of Kathleen McCormack Durst in 1982. I am not responsible for it. ” The updated investigation led to murder charges against her imprisoned ex-husband this fall.

At a press conference, Roca revealed some new witnesses and physical evidence to support the elements of the case, and her office was “more positive than before” to some witnesses. She said she had re-interviewed, but she didn’t elaborate.

Keeping in mind that the grand jury’s secret law prohibits investigators from revealing some of what they have learned, the report essentially summarizes the facts already publicly revealed.

“Some missed opportunities by law enforcement officers directing the early stages of the investigation may have contributed to the delay in prosecution in this case,” Roca said.

Authorities are now “learning and needing to learn,” she said. Especially for future research involving wealthy, powerful and well-known people.

Kathy Durst’s family lawyer accused DA of trying to “explain to the murderer how money, power and influence can escape justice,” and asked Roca to resign.

Attorney Robert Abrams said in a statement, “Consider why the current Westchester DA and its predecessors are reluctant to tell the truth why Robert Durst took nearly 40 years to be prosecuted. I ask the people. ”

Dust has always claimed that he last met his wife when he dropped her off to Westchester County for a train to New York City. There was an apartment in New York City and she was in medical school.

According to Roca, investigators initially tried to “lead to a duster version of the event,” despite the contradictions.

For example, Durst said the two had no marriage problems, but one of Manhattan’s neighbors repeatedly evacuated in his neighbor’s apartment after his wife beat her and passed through the balcony next door. I told the police that I was looking for it.

Meanwhile, a neighbor who said he had visited Westchester after dropping her off the train denied that he had arrived, and a duster weekend house cleaner believed she was dishwasher blood. I noticed some anomalies such as. Immediately after she disappeared, she told her to dispose of much of his wife’s possessions.

However, police did not thoroughly search Westchester’s home. Investigations continued to focus on Manhattan, with several witnesses reporting seeing Kathy Durst on the night of her disappearance, and her medical dean said he was called by her the next day.

A review initiated by the New York State Police and DA offices in 1999 unraveled both of these evidences. Witnesses said they were wrong or uncertain, and the medical school originator she said was Kathy Durst was actually Robert Durst’s best friend, Susan Berman. Evidence was developed that was.

Berman was found killed in her home in Los Angeles in December 2000, before state police investigators carried out plans to interview her.

Dust was convicted of killing her in September, and prosecutors alleged that she had killed him so that he would not be guilty. Roca said the Los Angeles proceedings paved the way for New York’s accusations.

Kathy Durst was declared legally dead in 2017, but her body has not been found.
