Morgan County, Alabama (WHNT) — A man in Hartselle, Alabama, has been detained as a result of an FBI investigation claiming to have kidnapped a woman in Wisconsin and attempted to hire someone to brutally rape her.
Matthias Jacob Edward Mann, 22, was arrested by the FBI at Hartsel’s family home Thursday morning. There he was charged with attempted kidnapping and attempting to seduce someone to cross state boundaries to commit sex crimes.
According to court documents, Mann carefully planned the entire attack on a woman who had previously spoken online but had never met in person.
According to the document, detective Berg of the Owatonna police station in Minnesota was monitoring the social media messaging platform Kik undercover. On December 29, Berg exchanged rape / sexual assault videos, where users described various fantasies, demanded sexual assault of others (either knowing or not knowing the victim). I was watching a group called “Abduction and R @ pe3”.
According to court documents, Berg saw a new user with the screen name “Dylan H”. The Kik account posted a message to the “Abduction and R @ pe 3” group at around 1:29 pm, “Can anyone kidnap and rape? **** in Wisconsin?”
Berg sent a message to Dylan H saying he was interested in helping with the request. “Dylan H.” Then he provided the victim’s name as a person from Wisconsin who wanted to be kidnapped and raped. According to records, Mann provided the detective with $ 2,000 to complete the mission.
“Dylan H.” He also sent some photos of the woman to Berg, along with the address of the Samplerley, Wisconsin. He described her as a “former friend” and demanded that she “need the most brutal **** rape I could imagine.”
“Dylan H.” He told Berg that he had tried to do this before, but anyone who tried to do that tried to expose him.
According to court documents, Berg spoke to “Dylan H” during their chat. That he lived in Minnesota. “Dylan H.” Asked for the length of the drive from where he lived to where the victims lived.
At this point, Berg contacted the Sun Prairie police station in Wisconsin and found a woman to make sure she was safe. SPPD investigators were able to confirm that the woman was a real person and contact her to inform her of the situation.
Later, law enforcement agencies devised a plan to ensure her safety.
On December 30th, Berg called it “Dylan H”. And I recorded their conversation. During the call, he confirmed his request to kidnap and rape a “Dylan H.” woman, saying it wasn’t just a fantasy. According to court documents, he said he wanted to confirm that the woman was a former friend / acquaintance and that the video of the kidnapping and sexual assault was done as he wished.
That night, Berg asked the woman if she knew anyone in Georgia. She remembered the name “Mattias Man”, but told Berg that they were only talking online and had never met in person. She also provided the investigator with a screenshot of Mann.
The detective continued to talk to “Dylan H.” By text message with Kik on the first weekend of January. He agreed to pay the detective $ 100 for gas when the rape was completed and $ 2,000 when the rape was completed.
Through a series of subpoenas and investigation warrants for telephone services and Internet providers, investigators have decided on “Dylan H.” It had a relationship with Georgia and Hartsel. Finally, “Dylan H”. Identified as Matthiasman.
The woman contacted the investigator the same weekend and said she received a rough message from the phone number associated with Mann and made a $ 10 donation to GoFundMe, which she set up a year ago.
On Monday, Mann contacted Berg and told him to mail a video of the rape hidden in a DVD case to the address of Hartsel, who is believed to live with his parents.
On Tuesday, FBI agent Christopher Hendon of Alabama was contacted by a detective at the Owatonna Police Station in Minnesota to warn of the situation. Later, law enforcement went to Mann’s address and found a car registered under his name on the driveway.
On Wednesday, Mann sent $ 75 to the detective through Zell for “miscellaneous expenses.”
Mann is currently detained in Morgan County Jail.
