Panama City (Wand)-Two Americans are missing, including a woman in Teutopolis, after a plane crash in Panama.
Five people were on board the six single-cylinder Piper cello keys. NBC-affiliated WTWO and Associated Press report, When it reached the Pacific Ocean and immediately submerged on January 3rd. Having taught in the Teutopolis region for decades, Sue Borries is one of two people believed to be missing.The other is Debra Bellman in Walkisha, Wisconsin.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Panama, the missing Americans are 57 and 70 years old. The other three on private flight, including the pilot and two other US citizens, were rescued.
To find the missing passengers, the crew searched Panama’s Puntachame, south of Panama City, by boat and aircraft.
At the time of this crash, the plane was heading for Chame from Contadora Island, about 50 miles away. Borries and her husband returned on separate flights after the New Year celebrations on the island off Panama.
Borries’ son, Brandon, called her a lover of life and said she continued to serve after her retirement in Panama.
“Volunteers at local schools, volunteers at local churches, volunteers at the Pickleball League,” he said. “As you know, I’m traveling to all these little islands. Really a desire for life.”
According to the Boley’s Sun, Panama leaders immediately sought help from the US government. He said a request for a “deeply muddy water dive” was made regarding the sonar and dive team.
