Cavaliers promote Mike Gansey from assistant to GM | WGN Radio 720

Cleveland (AP) The Cleveland Cavaliers promoted assistant general manager Mike Gansey to GM on Wednesday. This is one of several front office moves made by the improved team.

Gandhi has been with the Cavs since 2011. He will play more roles in draft preparation, working with Koby Altman, who was recently promoted from GM to president of basketball operations.

“Mike is a great resource for me and his work behind the scenes with this organization gives me a lot of confidence that he is more ready to play a leadership role,” Altman said. .. “The roots of his community provide a unique perspective when assessing the types of players and commitments needed to have a positive impact on Cleveland.”

After winning just 22 games last season, the Cavs have made a dramatic turnaround. They have reached 4th place in the All-Star Break at the Eastern Conference and are aiming for the first playoffs since 2018.

39-year-old Gandhi is from northeastern Ohio. He played jointly in West Virginia, where he was his first team’s Big East Selection. Gandhi was previously the GM of the NBA G League Cleveland Charge.

With the promotion of Gandhi, the Cavaliers promoted Brandon Weems to Assistant GM after serving as Senior Director of Players. Weems is a longtime friend of LeBron James and a former high school teammate.

Cavs also promoted Jason Hillman to Vice President of Basketball Business and Jon Nichols to Vice President of Basketball Strategy.
