Putin warns Russia of nuclear deterrence

Ukraine, Kiev (AP) -President Vladimir Putin ordered Russia’s nuclear deterrence to be more vigilant on Sunday amid tensions with the West over the invasion of Ukraine.

In a meeting with the Prime Minister, Putin argued that NATO’s major nations made “aggressive statements” with the West, which imposes strict economic sanctions on Russia, including the president himself.

The warning means that Putin has ordered Russia to be ready to launch nuclear weapons. He told the Russian Defense Minister and the Chief of Staff of the Army to put nuclear deterrence in a “special regime of combat missions.”

“Western countries are not only acting unfriendly to us in the economic arena, but senior officials from major NATO member countries have made positive statements about our country,” Putin said in a television comment. ..

His orders posed a threat that tensions with the West over the invasion of Ukraine could lead to the use of nuclear weapons.

Russian leaders threatened to retaliate severely this week against countries that directly intervened in the Ukrainian conflict.
