Lake Forest – What happened at Halas Hall on Monday has seen more than organizations and fans probably wanted in the last few years.
It’s the introduction of Bears’ general manager and head coach, as the team is once again trying to find the right combination of their football leadership to end the 36-year championship drought.
Ryan Pace will lead the front office, Matt Everfras will take the lead in the field from 2022, and will take over Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy after his term ends shortly after the 2021 season. Discovered by the team’s five search committees, they interviewed 13 potential general managers and 10 potential head coaches, each of whom has their first job.
“Tough, gritty, smart, opportunistic, winner” is a feature that President George McCaskey pointed out as the reason he was hired last week.
Pauls was first hired and, according to McCaskey, was the consensus choice of the search committee as the former executive director of Chiefs had the opportunity to run the front office for the first time.
He emphasized that the team wants to build a draft while being selective in the free agent market and use analytics to find players who can help make the Bears a consistent winner.
“We will consistently put players in a position to succeed,” Pauls said. “Finally, the most important part is to take the north and never return it.”
